Nikon D750: From Snapshots to Great Shots

This book is a great source for getting started with your Nikon D750. It has some great tips on getting the camera set up, such as warning you to change the default setting that lets you appear to be taking pictures even though there is no memory card in the camera to save them. Unlike an oweners manual, this book tells you why you want to use a feature, not just how to use it. It covers popular topics like portraits and landscapes. Mr. Sylvan, a professional photographer, gives inciteful tips and illustrations on how the features of this camera come into play when taking portraits, etc. I found it easy to understand and it is not overly taxing to read from cover to cover. It is not an exhaustive book on the D750 and does not purport to be. If you're going to spend $2,000 on a camera, you want to get the most out of it. This book will help most amateurs quickly realize more of the potential of this fine camera, especially if you do not have experience with a recent Nikon DSLR.

Today Ricoh unveiled a successor that aims to turn the tide of public opinion. The K-S2 is a 20MP APS-C sensor DSLR that opts for a safer and more traditional design.

Samsung NX500 crams an NX1 inside the NX300

Samsung

Though the timing of its announcement is simply coincidental with the CP+ 2015 show, Samsung's replacement for its NX300 interchangeable-lens camera deserves a little bit more than the relative stealth it received. The NX500 incorporates tons of the latest technology from the company crammed into a compact package designed for people who want to step up from a point-and-shoot to better photo quality and speed.
It's on the expensive side given that it doesn't have a viewfinder -- $800, £600 and AU$1,000 for the kit with the 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 power zoom lens -- though it's a better deal relative to the competition in the UK and Australia than in the US. It's due out around the world in March.

Olympus E-M5 II Review

Olympus E-M5 II review -- Front view without lens

In early 2012, Olympus took its Micro Four Thirds lineup into new territory with the E-M5, which reinvented the company's OM film camera brand as an enthusiast and pro-friendly mirrorless camera for the digital age. The followup E-M1 took over the reins as Olympus' pro-friendly flagship some 18 months later, with the E-M5 remaining in the lineup as the enthusiast's go-to choice, offering plenty of creative possibilities and room to grow as a photographer, but with a very affordable pricetag.
Now, three years later, the Olympus E-M5 II arrives, taking the E-M5 series back to the forefront with advancements including an uprated, record-making five-stop image stabilization system and a versatile tilt/swivel LCD -- the latter a particularly impressive feat in a dust and splash-proof body. Not that the stabilization system isn't spectacular too. Olympus claims shutter speeds as long as 1/4-second will now be hand-holdable.
